Welcome to 'Den Bonten Osch'
Bed and Breakfast Den Bonten Osch opened in November 2013. The B&B Is located in the monumental mansion along the main canal in Schoonhoven. The first recorded history dates back to 1581, whereafter the mansion in 1599 obtained its present name "Den Bonten Osch". Den Bonten Osch is translated "the motley ox" in old Dutch.
It was described as follows: "26-4-1599 Lucas Roeloffszoon verkoopt Geryt Vermoolen een rentebrief van 100 car gld van Lambert Jacobszoon op huis daar hij jegenwoordich inne woont, daer uythanght Den Bonten Osch".
On March 20, 1847, the owner at that moment, Sebastion Eliza van Nooten, bookseller in Schoonhoven, requests permission to build a brick shed in the yard behind the mansion, to be used for storage of coal, wood etc., with its exit at de Lange Weistraat. In this -in the meantime thoroughly renovated- warehouse (national monument), the current owners established the bed and breakfast facility "Den Bonten Osch” providing all modern conveniences.
The total floor area is appr. 50 m2. The entrance is in the Lange Weistraat nr 6c.
